What are Gear Score Brackets in Dark and Darker?

Ironmace, the developers, are constantly tweaking the gear score brackets as the community grows, so these details might change. But here’s how it works for now:

There are two main modes:

• Normal Brackets
  • Low Gear (0-24) - Perfect for new and amateur players starting their journey
  • Moderate Gear (25-124) - For players who need a bit of challenge
  • High Gear (125+) - Aimed at experienced players with powerful gear
• High Roller Brackets

High Roller Brackets: This is a tougher, higher-stakes mode that ramps up the intensity. Normally, matchmaking in High Roller Mode doesn’t care about your gear score—you can get matched with anyone, no matter how strong or weak their gear is.

However, recently they’ve been experimenting with a minimum gear score requirement of 225+ to join, which adds an extra layer of challenge. It’s a risky but rewarding mode for players who want to push their limits!

How to use Gear Score Calculator?

Using this gear score calculator is super easy and fun! You’ve got a full layout of your character’s gear slots right in front of you, so all you need to do is start selecting items into the appropriate slots. Whether it's a two-handed weapon or rings, every piece of gear you equip will automatically add to your total gear score, which you’ll see right at the top.
